It’s here, the last summer Friday. I could cry! But that doesn’t mean that I won’t be savoring every last minute. I am off to the beach this weekend to hopefully get rid of my pasty pale skin. Wish us luck because we are bringing Jimmy on the train. Let’s hope he travels just like Lilo. Have a great long weekend, I plan on stargazing, bike riding, watermelon eating,  & barbecuing all weekend.  x

I kicked off this Monday with a trip to the travel doctor. Now that our trip is pretty much booked, I had to get a few recommended shots & prescriptions. I’ve always hated getting needles, so when the doctor asked if I’d like a shot or a prescription for a few pills instead, I took the pills.

Have you seen these glitter pills floating around Pinterest? Well, you can actually buy them (check out the disclaimer on the site lol). I think all pills should be this pretty.

I’ve lately had South Africa on the brain, so I loved coming across these amazing street fashion photos.  Chris Saunders did an amazing job capturing the attitude & ensembles of these South Africans. I hope to see some fashion like this when I visit (hopefully in September!).

Chester Wallace

4.11.2012

For about a year, I was on the hunt for the perfect every day bag. Some of my requirements were size, shoulder friendly & durable. I shopped around but nothing really stuck until I came across Chester Wallace.  Chester Wallace bags are unisex handmade bags designed by Patrick Long.  I loved the size, fabric, & design of the bag so I decided to make the plunge but then I couldn’t find the one I wanted for sale in the US. I ended up emailing Patrick to see if he could help me locate one and he ended up making one and shipping it to me directly!  I was ecstatic when I received the bag in the mail with a handwritten note from Portland. When I initially bought the bag I was a little concerned it would be too manly for me because I never saw a photo of a girl wearing the bag but I absolutely love it.  It’s a perfect size & the yellow pop of the strap lets me personalize it and add some color each day.  Chester Wallace bags would make a great gift for anyone – it’s roomy enough for a pair of heels or a 6 pack of beer :)

Happy Friday!! It’s suppose to be a rainy one but it’s always nice to have one every now & then, for some arts & crafts time!

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, traveling or just want to explore your own city – check out this new site Fathom.  They have amazing useful guides for a lot of cities and I’m sure they will be expanding to more cities soon.  The include information that is useful for tourists or locals.  It’s a great way to find out about new places & activities to do in your city.

big news!

This gif was inspired by Tim’s drawing (below).  Tim’s photo “Entry” was in the final round of a photo contest for Travel & Leisure magazine.  Instead of calling to tell me he won, I came home Friday night to these fun signs!  The grand prize is a trip to South Africa for two.  We have no idea on specifics of the trip, but I am so happy for him and can’t wait to go!

Peter Guttman

1.27.2012

Last night, I had the privilege (thanks, Emily!) of attending a slideshow of travel photographer, Peter Guttman.  The event was thrown in his Upper West Side kitschy apartment by Peter, his wife – Lori and son Chase.  They were  definitely the most well traveled family I’ve ever met but also one of the friendliest & happiest families I’ve ever met.  The slideshow included over 1,000 photos with music & sound effects of their past adventures from the year including visits to New Zealand, Costa Rica, Dubai & even Connecticut.  The night was a lot of fun and inspiring – the slideshow started out (26 years ago!) as a way to share his photos with friends and has turned into a yearly event with multiple showings to crowds of over 60 people.  Below are some photos from the night. Thanks Emily for inviting us!
Their apartment is covered with tons of trinkets from their travels including these marionettes & the lion.

Pocket People

1.12.2012

I came across these Pocket People on Etsy and literally laughed out loud at the descriptions.  Handmade by Nicola Rowlands, each one of these little people has a personality of their own.  Take Craig for example:
“Craig cooks a killer spaghetti bolognese and has hairy feet. Very good at hugging. Favours a hunting sock and a goosedown vest in a pocket-sized format for portability (and even sharing.)”
Perfect gift for: A friend in a new city or someone who’s travelling.
